Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
